Feeling confident, believing in yourself, standing tall – these are all important ways to feel your best. While the way you look is only one part of who you are, it is still a part of you. And feeling that you look your best can be a real confidence booster for any woman.
Here is a list of my top five beauty secrets that have kept me feeling and looking my best over the years.
1. MOISTURIZE YOUR FACE
I have very dry skin and ever since my teens I have used Jamieson Vitamin E cream after washing my face in the morning, just before makeup application (if I was getting ready later in the day), and then at bedtime. Vitamin E cream wards off sun damage, reduces the signs of aging including fine lines, wrinkles, and brown spots. In addition, it also helps to lighten scars over time if used consistently.
2. HAIR NEEDS A LOT OF MOISTURE TOO
I have very fine and straight hair (and the coloring and highlighting isn’t doing it any favours either) so therefore need to wash it every two days otherwise it becomes very oily. Washing it so often however dries the scalp and then you end up with flaky brittle hair…how do I get around that? I lather my scalp and full hair right to the tips with coconut oil once a week. Any kind of coconut oil works, even over the counter and what you cook with! Keep it on overnight and in the morning shampoo and condition as you normally would. This trick for shiny healthy hair will work for all types of hair.
3. APPLY FOUNDATION WITH YOUR HANDS
I’ve always gravitated towards the more natural look when it comes to make up. Apply foundation to your face with your fingers and gently blend into your face to achieve a natural fresh faced look.
4. KEEP YOURSELF WELL HYDRATED
Obviously, good skin comes from within so what you’re putting in your body really affects how your skin looks. Drink lots and lots of water everyday!
5. STAY AWAY FROM FACIALS
You heard me. I know it’s kind of a radical statement because everyone usually LOVES to recommend them, but I don’t—and never have. Facials can actually make your skin worse, not better as no facial is ever unique to one person’s skin type or sensitivities. Any benefits you get from a facial are only temporary. The “glow” will only last a couple of days – max. If you are getting facials for any reason other than the temporary glow and relaxation, then stop and start seeing a dermatologist instead. I’ve had about 3 facials in my lifetime and that number most likely will not change in the future.
